BEFORE FAME

Tony attended Dallas Center-Grimes High School in Grimes, IA, where he played baseball, football and basketball. He won the Bob Feller Award as the Iowa High School Pitcher of the Year in 2003 after throwing three no-hitters and compiling an Iowa-state record 0.10 ERA. Tony went 29-9 in his high school career and fanned 613 batters, the most by a high school pitcher in Iowa since Cal Eldred in the mid-1980s.

FUN FACT

As a sophomore at the University of Nebraska in 2006, Tony went 10-2 with a 2.87 ERA and beat out Max Scherzer (University of Missouri) for a spot on the Big 12’s All-Conference team.
