Head Athletic Trainer
Sean Cunningham, 50, is entering his 15th season as head athletic trainer for the Miami Marlins. Prior to joining the Marlins, Cunningham served as coordinator for strength, conditioning, and team travel for the Montreal Expos from 1997 to 2001. He began his athletic training career as an assistant trainer at Indianapolis (AAA) before becoming head athletic trainer at Burlington, Ia. (A), Jacksonville, Fla. (AA), and West Palm Beach, Fla. (A). He served as the Coordinator for Strength, Conditioning, and Rehabilitation for the Montreal Expos from 1992-1996. Sean was honored to work the 2010 All-Star Game in Anaheim, California. A native of Boston, he graduated in 1986 from Canisius College and received his master’s degree in exercise science from Florida Atlantic University. A certified athletic trainer and a certified strength and conditioning specialist, Cunningham lives in Jupiter, Fla., with wife, Michelle, and their three sons, Eric, Kyle, and Ryan. Sean enjoys coaching and playing basketball in the off-season.
