Head Athletic Trainer
Kevin Rand, 56, is in his 14th season as the Head Athletic Trainer for the Detroit Tigers. Prior to joining Detroit, Rand was an Assistant Athletic Trainer with the Montreal Expos in 2002 and the Florida Marlins from 1993 to 2001. He served as the Head Athletic Trainer for the American League at the 2005 All-Star Game. In 2006, Rand was named as part of the PBATS Major League Athletic Training Staff of the Year. He represented the American League as an Athletic Trainer for the MLB All-Star Series in Japan in 2014. A native of Cape Elizabeth, ME, Rand was inducted into the Maine Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007. He began his career with the New York Yankees organization as the Athletic Trainer of the Class-A Ft. Lauderdale Yankees in 1982. In 1985, he was elevated to the Class AA Albany-Colonie Yankees and the Class AAA Columbus Clippers the following season. In 1989, Rand began a four-year stint as the Yankees’ Minor League head athletic trainer/rehabilitation supervisor. He also served as athletic trainer for La Guaira in the Venezuelan Winter League in 1987 and Caimanes in the Dominican Winter League in 1985. Rand served on the PBATS Executive Committee as the National League Assistant Athletic Trainer Representative from 1998-2001 and as the American League Head Athletic Trainer representative from 2004-2009. He is a certified member of the NATA and the NSCA.He and his wife, Tisa, have four sons, Keegan, Kamden, Kallen, and Kashton and reside in Lakeland, Fla.
