Steve Donohue, 59, enters his 5th season as only the 2nd Head Athletic Trainer of the New York Yankees have had in almost 40 years, following Gene Monahan’s retirement. Donohue spent 26 years serving as Gene’s assistant athletic trainer with the Yankees. Steve has been treating the injuries of professional athletes since his high school days in Mt. Vernon, N.Y. Donohue served as a student athletic trainer for the New York Jets, and he continued to assist the NFL team for four years. University of Louisville alum, Donohue joined the Yankees’ Minor League organization after graduation, working with affiliates in West Haven, Nashville, and Columbus. He was promoted to the Yankees’ MLB club in 1986. Donohue served as American Athletic Trainer for the 1999 and 2006 MLB All-Star Games. Donohue sits on the MLB Medical Advisory Committee, the Hall of Fame Committee. A member of the NATA and the Eastern Athletic Trainers Association, He also authors the annual PBATS Confidential Directory. Donohue along with Gene Monahan, was honored with the annual “MLB Athletic Training Staff of the Year” in 1990 and again in 2010. Steve is also a certified New York State Emergency Medical Technician. Donohue and his wife, Paula, have two daughters, Shannon and Margaret.
